Better data leads to better decisions; and for the people of SA, that means better care

The challenge

Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) faced fragmented, unreliable reporting that slowed decisions and undermined confidence.

NALHN needed to strengthen decision processes around patient safety and quality. Existing reporting tools were fragmented, inconsistent, and not fit for purpose across the Board, Executive, and Divisional levels.  Leaders lacked a single, trusted source of performance data, which limited clinical governance and slowed strategic decision-making.  Without reliable insights, NALHN faced increased risk, reduced confidence in its data, and limited ability to act quickly when issues emerged.

How we helped

Turning fragmented data into a single, trusted source of performance insight

Engagement across clinicians, executives and technical teams established a clear, shared set of performance indicators aligned to patient safety and quality priorities. From this, a structured review of data maturity could be undertaken to identify critical gaps and defined practical, achievable steps to strengthen reporting capability.

A scalable data model was designed to integrate previously disconnected data sources into a single, trusted view of performance. Robust ETL pipelines were implemented to automate data ingestion, significantly reducing manual effort while ensuring timely and reliable information.

Tailored Power BI dashboards were developed for Board, Executive and Divisional leaders, aligned to their specific decision needs and contexts. This enabled clearer, more consistent access to relevant insights across all levels of the organisation.

To embed long-term capability, a structured uplift program was delivered, including reporting templates, a style guide and targeted training. This ensured consistency in reporting outputs while strengthening internal skills, supporting sustainable, high-quality data and analytics practices.

Results that matter

Trusted, real-time insights through stronger, future-ready data capability enabling faster decisions and safer care

A scalable, cost-effective data solution provided a single, trusted source of insight for clinicians, executives and the Board, strengthening governance and supporting more informed decision-making. Integrated data sources and automated pipelines improved the accuracy and timeliness of safety and quality reporting, enabling faster identification of issues and more responsive care.

Standardised governance, templates and reporting structures drove consistency across the organisation, reducing manual effort and improving efficiency. Enhanced dashboards increased transparency and visibility of performance, building confidence in data quality and supporting clearer, evidence-based decisions. Collectively, these outcomes established a stronger, future-ready data capability aligned to improved patient outcomes and system responsiveness.
