The challenge
Rising delivery costs and funding constraints were placing increasing pressure on margins, making it harder to sustain high-quality services and plan confidently for future growth.
A large disability support provider was operating in a complex and constrained funding environment. Rising service delivery costs and evolving participant needs were placing pressure on margins and existing service models. At the same time, the organisation needed to balance its commitment to high-quality, person-centred care with the need to achieve long-term commercial sustainability.
Limited visibility of the factors influencing performance and potential market opportunities made it difficult to plan confidently for the future. Shifting demand and increasing competition across service segments created further uncertainty. To establish a sustainable platform for growth, the organisation needed a comprehensive understanding of its current performance, supported by data-driven insights and a clear roadmap to optimise operations and unlock future opportunities.
How we helped
An evidence-led review tested assumptions against operational realities, stakeholder experience and market conditions to define a sustainable business model and supporting financial framework.
OCM helped the organisation to rapidly diagnose the underlying drivers of its financial and operational performance. The review considered internal constraints alongside the external market and funding dynamics affecting its long-term viability. Rather than applying a predetermined solution, we tailored the approach to the organisation’s unique operating environment and remained sensitive to the practical realities and constraints of service delivery.
Through stakeholder engagement, data analysis and practical, on-the-ground insight, OCM brought together diverse perspectives to develop a comprehensive view of current performance and the organisation’s key challenges. This evidence base enabled assumptions to be tested and provided a clearer understanding of where targeted improvements could have the greatest effect.
Building on these insights, we worked collaboratively with the organisation to develop a clear and actionable plan setting out the critical initiatives and enablers required to achieve a sustainable future business model. A robust financial model was developed to support strategic planning, assess the effect of key business drivers and help prioritise initiatives. This was complemented by practical recommendations designed to strengthen commercial sustainability and embed lasting change.
Results that matter
A clear and prioritised pathway to financial sustainability, underpinned by $8.1 million in identified efficiency opportunities, positioned the organisation for stronger performance and future growth.
The review established a clear and actionable pathway towards financial sustainability, supported by a practical and sector-informed framework for improvement. By examining opportunities across market and client growth, workforce and corporate services, service delivery and client experience, OCM identified and assessed high-impact opportunities across the organisation.
This structured approach supported the development of a balanced set of recommendations, including short to long-term financial efficiency opportunities valued at $8.1 million, optimisation of the operating model and the pursuit of sustainable growth across services and markets.
Together, these initiatives provided a coherent and integrated roadmap for change. The organisation gained the clarity, discipline and strategic direction needed to strengthen financial performance and transition towards a more sustainable and resilient operating model.
